61st Annual Meeting
March 28-30, 2008
Boston Marriott Burlington, MA
Many
NHANA members attended the NEANA meeting in Burlington last
month.
Overall, the meeting was very well run and well attended. The
meeting may return to the hotel in Nashua in the future, but
they are currently undergoing extensive renovations. The Marriott
has done an excellent job for us for the past two years. The
meeting rooms, the food and the overnight accommodations were
excellent!
The usual NEANA Board meeting was held on Thursday night. Some
of Friday's topics included "In flight medical events during
commercial air travel . . . , TEE, P/O Optic Ischemic Neuropathy
and Anesthesia considerations for the burned patient."

NHANA
Members at State Breakout March 29 2008
Saturday's
topics included several airway management sessions, and we had
the State breakout sessions in the morning, along with the Region
I update. Saturday night there was a reunion sponsored by University
of New England for all alumni. We had a fantastic time reminiscing
with our former teachers and friends.
Sunday,
we heard about one of the newer innovations in anesthesia training,
the anesthesia simulator and then a heart-felt presentation
from Linda Kenney about the MITSS organization (Medically Induced
Trauma Support Services).
It was great to catch up with old friends, and meet some new
ones! Overall, we had a great time, and learned some new things
too!
I'm sure you have all heard about the anesthesia providers in
Nevada reusing needles and or syringes. We wanted to remind
people that all syringes and needles are single use only for
best practices and safe patient care. The AANA has been writing
extensively on the topic and wants everyone to log on to their
website for further information and updates. Many patients have
yet to be tested in this case, but several have tested positive
for Hepatitis C. So please treat all patients as if they were
your own family members!

Dean
Kamen
Home Bedford NH.
John,
our lobbyist Jim Boulay, my husband, Representative Dan Sullivan
and I were honored to be guests at the home of NH 's own Dean
Kamen last Friday night. We were invited by the Governor's office
to attend a fundraiser for the Governor at Mr. Kamen's private
home in Bedford, NH. It was so much fun!!
Governor
Lynch with Dean Kamen |
We
arrived in our own vehicles, which were parked, and we were
driven up the driveway to the house in a shuttle vehicle. We
were greeted at the front door by Mr. Kamen and the Governor.
Inside, we were treated to delicious hors'douvres and drinks.
Mr. Kamen was a very gracious host as he allows everyone to
explore his entire 15,000sq ft house!

It
was breathtaking! He is an inventor, and he has many prototypes
and original inventions throughout the house, as well as an
indoor pool/Jacuzzi, and a helicopter hanger! He gave a nice
speech, as did the Governor, both of whom we were able to speak
to directly about nurses and nurse anesthesia. I think the Governor
is definitely recognizing us at these events, and he knows that
we support him, supporting us!!
